Sawdust Festival

Laguna Beach California is an artist community and home to several world-class art festivals. Every summer tourists from around the world jam Orange County’s most intimate seaside setting to attend the city’s famous summer art festivals. The Sawdust Festival is one of Laguna’s most well-known art shows and in 2005 was named one of the top-5 art festivals in the country by American Style Magazine.

Created in 1966 with a great sense of idealism, the Sawdust Art Festival came into being as a revolt against the local art establishment. To keep down the dust during the first show sawdust was put on the ground; the show eventually took its name from the cozy effect this created. Now in its 4th decade, the festival features 200 artists that have been selected for their artistic excellence and originality by Sawdust officials. Over the years the Sawdust Festival has continually drawn art enthusiasts from all over the world looking for a variety of artistic media which includes: painting, ceramics, jewelry, photography, textile arts, wood and metal sculpture, hand blown and fused glass, mixed media, and even scrimshaw. Included with a Sawdust admission are daily artist demonstrations that include glass blowing, complimentary art projects for adults and children, three outdoor cafes and continuous entertainment. This canyon paradise allows visitors to personally meet each artist and talk to them about their craft.

Since 1998, the Sawdust Festival has been the home of Made in Heaven By Missy. Her magical booth has won several local awards for creativity and was voted best in show during the 2005 Winter Fantasy. Her booth has become a favorite spot for little girls that love Missy’s handmade fairy wands and the unlimited supply of free fairy dust. Each year Missy creates several new types of fairies as she packs her booth with incredible one-of-a-kind whimsical creatures. Missy continues to adhere to her commitment of producing original fairies and does not manufacture any of her creations – each piece is unique and dressed in vintage fabric. If you plan to attend the Sawdust Festival (July & August) or Winter Fantasy (Late November / Early December), stop by Made In Heaven and visit with Missy, meet her magical creations and don’t forget to get a free sprinkle of fairy dust!
